DON’T GO IT ALONE

The power of peer-to-peer support 👫

Hi fam,

As we’ve covered in previous newsletters, life is really f*ckin’ hard.

As we continue to navigate a mental health crisis compounded by both stigma and the shortage of available providers and resources, peer support groups can offer much-needed support.

Although peer support programs are not new, they have gained traction over the last few years. Mental health clubs in schools and other peer support programs are helping raise awareness of mental health issues in a variety of settings, while reducing stigma around seeking help.

What’s great about peer support groups:

🫂They bring people together: 61% of adults report being lonely, while 4 in 10 report having no close personal relationships. Peer groups centering a common experience or interest can bring people together in a new and sustainable way.

💪They allow us to work out our relational muscles: It’s evident that our well-being hinges on the quality of our relationships yet many of us fail to prioritize relationships in our lives and while we have spaces to work out our physical muscles, few spaces exist to help us work out our relational muscles.

🧑‍⚕️They fill the mental health care gap: With an increase in mental health conditions and continued efforts to decrease stigma and increase access, mental health care shortage is inevitable. Peer groups serve to fill this gap and offer an alternative solution to more traditional therapy.

This year, we’re launching modern peer support groups, designed to be safe spaces where we can dive into specific topics and forge deeper connections around common, every day challenges many of us face (think: work burnout, digital addiction, grieving the loss of a pet).
