⏰ Mental health month is here.
It’s gonna be May.
Yeah we said it.
Happy May, everyone! As we welcome the month with our heads full of nostalgic boy band songs, we also welcome the opportunity to reflect on a crucial aspect of individual and collective well-being: mental health.
So what is Mental Health Awareness Month?
Mental Health Awareness Month first began in the United States in 1949, initiated by the Mental Health America organization. The primary goal was to raise awareness, educate the public, and fight the stigma surrounding mental health. Since then, every May, advocates, organizations, and individuals from around the globe have joined forces to spread vital information about mental health, promote the importance of self-care, and share personal stories of hope and resilience.
Over the years, Mental Health Awareness Month has evolved, featuring various themes and campaigns to address specific mental health issues or bring attention to the needs of different communities. It's now a powerful platform to remind us all that mental health is an essential aspect of overall well-being, and that together, we can make a difference.
This year’s theme is “look around, look within”. Folks are encouraged to examine their world and how it can affect their overall health. From your neighborhood to genetics, many factors come into play when it comes to mental health. Find resources from Mental Health America here.
